Inspired by Nature, Built to Last
An Idea Worth Recreating
Inspiration doesn’t always come from plans or drawings. Sometimes, it’s found unexpectedly.
For this project, it began with a walk through Kew Gardens. The client came across a traditional
timber summer house and was drawn to its proportions, its character, and the way it sat so naturally
within its surroundings.
The brief was simple: recreate that feeling.
A Considered Approach
Rather than replicate the structure exactly, we focused on capturing its essence.
Flush sash windows and French doors were specified to reflect the clean, balanced lines of
traditional joinery. Finished in Agate Grey, with a white woodgrain interior, the palette brings
softness and warmth while maintaining a light, usable space inside.
Mechanically jointed frames were used throughout to preserve the authenticity of the design. It’s a
detail that ensures the finished building feels true to its inspiration, rather than a modern
interpretation of it.
Antique black hardware was selected to complete the look, simple, durable, and in keeping with the
overall character.
The Details That Matter
As with any standalone structure, proportion and finish are everything.
A bespoke hipped roof was designed and constructed in timber, giving the building its distinctive
form. Finished with slate-effect tiles, it brings the texture and weight of a traditional roof, while
ensuring durability and longevity.
Each element was chosen not just for how it looks, but for how it contributes to the whole.
The Outcome
The completed summer house feels like it has always belonged.
It captures the charm of the original inspiration, but with the benefit of modern materials and
careful construction. A space designed not just to be seen, but to be used and enjoyed over time.
Because when something is built with care, it doesn’t just replicate an idea. It improves on it.
Every aspect considered. Let’s talk.
